HSE Says Function Of UHL Assessment Units “Non-Existent” Due To Overcrowding

The Friends of Ennis Hospital has made a renewed call for the resignation of UL Hospitals Group CEO Colette Cowan following an independent report into the death of Shannon Teenager Aoife Johnston.

The investigation by former Chief Justice Frank Clarke found the circumstances of the 16 year-old’s death were almost certainly avoidable and that severe overcrowding significantly compromised the ability of doctors and nurses.

The HSE’s UHL Support Team Report meanwhile, which has also just been released found the function of its assessment units are “non-existent” due to overcrowding at the ED.

 

Friends of Ennis Hospital Spokesperson Deirdre Culligan fears there will be more unavoidable deaths without urgent action.
