The HSE says an Emergency Department cannot be reinstated at Ennis General Hospital.
It follows the healthcare body’s annual briefing with the local authority, in which Chief Clinical Director Brian Lenehan conceded that Clare patients had “limited options” between the Local Injury Unit, Medical Assessment Unit and ED.

Professor Lenehan added however that Ennis is not equipped with the sufficient resources to cater for patients presenting in a critical condition.
Mayor of Ennis and Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat Daly believes though that there are alternatives.
