Investigation underway as Clare cyclist dies in Louth

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a Clareman died while he was cycling in County Louth early this morning.

The 41-year-old man, who had been working in the area, hails from the Miltown Malbay area.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the accident at Birch's Lane in Blackrock, Co. Louth shortly before 7am this morning.

The victim, a 41 year old man who is originally from the Miltown Malbay area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He had been working in the Louth area for a number of years.

His body was removed to Louth County Hospital for a post-mortem examination, and the road has been closed to allow for a forensic examination.

An investigation is underway, and Gardaí have issued an appeal for anyone who may have travelled on Birch's Lane in the early hours of this morning to come forward.
