Irish Water says it will invest over 22 million euro in water infrastructure in Clare in the next two years.

The body's announced details of a national investment programme totalling 1.8 billion between now and 2016.

The detailed invested plan outlines works on two water schemes and eight sewerage services in the county.

It includes the long awaited Shannon Sewerage Scheme here construction is set to continue and the scope is to be reviewed.

Just over 22 million is to be spent on waste water treatement.

While 130,000 will be spent on water supply programmes at Newmarket on Fergus and Ennis.

The State company has identified key problems including the elimination of boil notices, providing a secure supply to Dublin, and fixing the leaks that mean more than 40 per cent of our water is lost through damaged pipes.

However, Irish Water says it still needs to raise more than 500 million Euro in additional funding to carry out the plan.
