An MEP for this region insists the broadcast moratorium must be abolished entirely before the next General Election.

Coimisiún na Meán has opened public consultation on the future of the broadcast moratorium which prohibits discussion of election or referendum issues on TV or radio from 2pm on the day preceding the election or referendum.

The closing date for submissions is September 4th with a review to be published by the end of October.

With much speculation that a General Election will be called for October or early November, Ireland South Fianna Fáil MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchú says she feels Comisiún na Meán must act more quickly.
