Talks aimed at reaching agreement between secondary teachers unions and the Department of Education over the new Junior Cycle may resume early next week.

They adjourned last night without agreement.

The Department has asked the independent chairperson Dr Pauric Travers to prepare a proposal that he believes would provide a fair and equitable basis for progress.

The teachers unions will bring his proposals to their executive bodies on Friday.

Minister Jan O'Sullivan has said she's willing to consider any proposal from Dr Travers.
