Justice Minister brands gangland killings as barbaric

The Deputy Garda Commissioner says no resources will be spared in solving the recent spate of murders around the country.

Since Friday – fourmen and a woman have died in shooting, stabbing and assault incidents in Dublin, Cork, Laois and Sligo.

Nacie Rice says Gardaí  are determined that all the perpetrators will be brought to justice.

Commissioner Rice – who says officers will do their best to thwart any retaliatory action – is condemning the murders.

The Justice Minister says those behind two murders in Laois and Dublin yesterday have ‘absolutely no respect for human life’.

Alan Shatter has branded the killings ‘barbaric’ and the perpetrators ‘evil’.

In a statement, the minister says Gardaí are absolutely determined to do everything possible to bring those responsible to justice.

He says he knows from discussions with the Garda Commissioner that the Gardaí will continue to target the activities of those involved in gangland crime, as they have been doing in operations in recent weeks.

Minister Shatter says he and the government will continue to resolutely support the Gardaí in every way they can in counteracting what he calls this ‘evil menace in our society’.
