The leaders of Fine Gael and Labour will meet later today to finalise the make-up of the next Cabinet and the agenda for their first days in office.

Enda Kenny and Eamon Gilmore have promised to get straight to work, after yesterday agreeing to form a new coalition Government.

The Finance portfolio looks set to be split in two with Michael Noonan expected to take charge over fiscal planning and banking while Labour will look after public sector reform.

Meanwhile, the deal between the parties has been described as a boost for Clare and the MidWest by one of the county’s three government TDs

Labour’s Michael McNamara has also identified the tackling of unemployment locally as the key issue for the incoming government.
