A planning application was made by Procad Engineering on behalf of the Board of Management of Kilkishen National School on August 3rd 2023 for a 521 square metre single-storey extension.

This extension will consist of two special educational needs classroom bases, two quiet space rooms associated with the SEN bases, a central activities space, daily living skills room and a multi-activity room.

Also contained in the extension will be an office, public toilets with a shower area, staff toilets, storage rooms and circulation areas including a new link to the existing school building containing internal steps and a platform lift.

The development will see a number of changes to the school site as an existing mainstream classroom as well as the existing front boundary wall and pedestrian access gates will be demolished to facillitate the works.

It’s stated however that a new front boundary wall and gates will be put in place – while the roadside parking area will be altered to accommodate six new parking spaces and a bicycle shelter will also be built.

Following a submission of additional information on August 2nd of this year, Clare County Council approved the application on August 7th subject to five conditions.
