Labour Court rules council staff to work longer hours

Clare County Council staff will have to work longer hours from next March.

While the majority of the State’s 34 local authorities operate a standard 35-hour working week, 16 local authorities including Clare don’t work as long.

Staff in Aras Contae an Chlair currently work a 33 hour week – however outside staff work a 39 hour week.

Under a binding Labour Court recommendation issued yesterday a minimum 34-hour working week is to be set for staff in all local authorities
