The woman hoping to retain the Carey family seat in Clare says she’s determined to bring a fresh approach to politics in this county.
Clarecastle native Leonora Carey is the daughter of former Clare TD Donal Carey and sister of Deputy Joe Carey who represented this county in Dáil Eireann since 2007, but resigned his post this week on medical grounds.
The Clare branch of Fine Gael will be holding its selection convention for the general election next week and, it’s understood, Ennistymon Senator Martin Conway and Leonora Carey are currently the only candidates seeking nomination.
Leonora, who’s currently employed as an Occupation Therapist Manager with the UL Hospitals Group, insists improving healthcare in Clare and the MidWest will be among her main ambitions.
