The level of overcrowding at the region’s main hospital is more than double that of the next busiest facility today.

The latest figure from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show there were 100 admitted patients waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick during morning rounds, 48 of those in the ED.

The overall figure is 53 more than the next busiest facility; Cork University Hospital.

Overall, 545 admitted patients were waiting on trolleys at hospitals across the country this morning, according to the figures.
