Local authority insists no complaints about grit linked corrosion

Clare County Council insists it hasn’t received complaints about corrosion on road vehicles, potentially linked to the use of salt or grit.

Local representatives say road users have reported increased corrosion on cars and motorbikes over the winter, and have asked whether this is linked to the measures commonly used during freezing conditions.

Clare County Council says neither it nor the NRA, who sources salt stocks for the country, have received complaints and that all stock needs to meet a minimum quality specification.

However, Clarecastle Fine Gael Councillor Paul Murphy says members of the public have been raising concerns with him.
