M18 Closed For Second Time In Less Than A Week

Loose animals have forced the closure of part of the M18 motorway for the second time in less than a week.

The route’s northbound carraigeway from Barefield was closed by Gardai just after 7 o’clock last night, in order to allow for a loose cattle to be caught and to facilitate a clean-up operation.

Just north of junction 14 a car collided with a vichele towing a trailer with cattle on board, when the animals escaped they were struck by a futher 2 cars leaving 1 animal dead.

There were no human injuries in the incident.

Last Friday afternoon, a nearby part of the route was closed to allow for a loose horse to be brought to safety.
