Macarthur freed from jail

Convicted Murder Malcolm Macarthur has been released from prison, after serving more than 30 years for murder.

He was handed a life sentence in 1982 for killing  nurse Bridie Gargan as she sunbathed in Dublin’s Phoenix Park

Three days later he murdered a farmer, Mr Donal Dunne, in Co Westmeath but for reasons never fully explained, the DPP decided never to charge Macarthur with Mr Dunne’s murder.

He was eventually arrested in the then attorney general’s apartment
The 66 year old was approved for temporary release from Shelton Abbey prison on Monday, and is to be supervised by the Probation service.
