The level of overcrowding at University Hospital Limerick has fallen significantly.

According to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, 48 admitted patients were recorded on trolleys at UHL during this morning’s rounds.

Although the figure marks a 62% reduction on peak trolley numbers at Dooradoyle on Wednesday of last week, it remains the busiest facility in the country today.

The fall in trolley numbers comes just five days after the UL Hospitals Group announced the deferral of outpatient appointments and surgeries at UHL, Ennis, Nenagh, St.John’s and Croom in a bid to de-escalate overcrowding at the region’s main hospital.
