Mary Immaculate Lisdoonvarna Celebrating 75 Years Of Education

One of Clare’s most prominent secondary schools is gearing up to celebrate the achievements of thousands of alumni and faculty to mark its diamond jubilee next month.

Mary Immaculate Secondary School in Lisdoonvarna was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1949 and opened to just twenty female students, before becoming one of Ireland’s first co-educational schools in 1959.

Today, the school has a population of over 350 and on November 2nd, a special event will take place at Corpus Christi Church in Lisdoonvarna to mark its success.

Past pupil Dr Geraldine Mooney Simme, who is now an Associate Professor at the University of Limerick, says the school was bounded by a community with incredible generosity.
