Mayor Of Clare Insists No Decision Has Been Made To Demolish Francis Street Houses

The Mayor of Clare insists no decision has been taken by the local authority to knock six houses on Francis Street in favour of a temporary car park.

A large crowd of demonstrators marched on the offices of Áras Chontae An Chláir yesterday afternoon demanding the protection of the derelict cottages in the county town.

At last months meeting of the Ennis Municipal District, , Councillors Tom O’Callaghan , Johnny Flynn and Pat Daly were narrowly defeated in their motion seeking for Ennis 2040 DAC to rethink the Abbey Street Redevelopment plans.

However the proposal to level the homes on Francis Street is yet go before a full meeting of Clare County Council and Cathaoirleach Tony O’Brien is adamant the concerns of the public will be taken on board before any final decision is made.
