The closure of the Woodstock Hotel in Ennis has been described as a blow to it’s staff and to the town.

60 workers at the hotel were informed yesterday that it was to close with immediate effect.  No official reason has been given, but financial issues are believed to have played a role.

Mayor of Ennis Peter Considine says the decision shows the need for government and employment agencies to better support the hotel sector, particularly along the West Coast.

He also hopes the Woodstock Hotel can be rescued, as was the case after it previously closed in 2008.
