The head of the UL Hospitals Group says measures contained in the new National Meternity Strategy are already being implemented in this region.

The plan aims to improve safety and quality, as well as standardising care across all maternity units.

CEO of the UL Hospitals Group Colette Cowen says more staf will be required but that these are already being sought, and she has also targeted an improvement in relatively low breastfeeding rates here.

It has already been announced that Limerick's Maternity Hospital is to be relocated to the campus at Dooradoyle in the coming years.
