A radio documentary on the life of well known Ennis man Michael Tierney is in the running for a major international award.

"I could have danced all night" told the story of the late Michael Tierney, described as one of County Clare’s most colourful and flamboyant characters, and received much local praise after it was broadcast on Clare FM and RTE Radio last year.

The programme has now received recognition abroad and has been shot listed for a Celtic Media Award which recognises the best of Arts, Culture and Media from Ireland, Britain and France.

The documentary was compiled and produced by Ennis Journalist Brian O’Connell who attributes the popularity of his programme down to the quality of the story and the character of Michael Tierney himself.
