Mid West Consultants under fire over budget deficit

Clare Councillors are accusing consultants at Limerick Regional Hospital of being out of touch with the issues facing their patients.

Local members of the regional Health Forum have been told that the Midwest’s main hospital is owed 5.3 million euro because consultants have not signed off on forms which would clear payments from insurance companies.  In some instances, the delay is over a year.

It’s also emerged the HSE West could be facing bigger than expected cutbacks under plans to correct an overspend within the executive

Councillors were warned that half-year financial figures show the HSE West is in the red to the tune of 48 million euro, though it’s hoped this will be reduced somewhat by the end of last month.

Green Party Councillor Brian Meaney says he’s astounded by the consultants’ attitude at a time when the service is bracing itself for extensive cuts.
