MidWest Addiction Councillor Calls For Cautious Approach To Legalisation

A MidWest Addiction Counsellor believes that the eventual legalisation of cannabis for personal use is inevitable.

The Government has this week deferred a People Before Profit bill for nine months that would allow someone to possess up to 7 grams of cannabis without prosecution.

It comes just one week after the Citizen’s Assembly on Drug Use published its 36 recommendations on how to tackle the issue, including a number of proposals relating to decriminalisation.

Michael Guerin from the Cuan Mhuire Addiction Centre in Bruree believes this must be done carefully though to ensure drug consumption is not normalised.
