Midwest Simon says the government needs to look beyond measures related to rental properties when it comes to tackling homelessness in 2024.

This year saw the controversial lifting of the eviction ban which was a move expected to result in an untenable surge in the number of people availing of emergency accommodation.

The most recent homeless figures revealed that a record 13,179 people, including 3,991 children, are currently without a home.

Midwest Simon CEO Jackie Bonfield believes that instead of focusing on rental incentives, the government must work to reduce the cost-of-living in general to lessen the chance of the average person being made homeless.
