The Health Minister is being urged to intervene to prevent planned bed closures at Limerick Regional Hospital which the HSE admit will affect patient services across the Mid West.

25 bed are due to be cut at Dooradoyle while overtime and agency staff are set to be halved from Monday as the Health Service Executive attempts to curb a 14 million deficit at Limerick Regional.

Nursing staff have expressed grave concern over the move and there are fears the remaining services at Ennis General and Nenagh could also be targeted in the future.

Government Minister and Mid West Labour TD Jan O Sullivan has written to the Health Minister James Reilly and is hopeful that an alternative can be found.

She believes that monies due to be allocated to Dooradoyle under reconfiguration were never forthcoming and that if they could now be provided, it might prevent the closure of beds.
