Minister Suggests Asking “For Loan” Of Specialised Chair In Case Of Shannon Child With Cerebral Palsy

The Minister of State at the Department of Health has suggested asking “for the loan” of a specialised chair in the case of a Clare child with Cerebral Palsy.

The two-year–old referred to as Alex is just below the age limit for the Access and Inclusion Model and therefore cannot be provided with a state funded SNA or any specialised equipment at her creche in Shannon.

As a result, Alex’s parents have been forced to bring in her walker from home every day, while she also has to use a seat propped up by tea towels.

Responding to Kilrush Independent TD Violet-Anne Wynne, Minister Mary Butler believes local services are best placed to help, while a review of the scheme is underway.
