Investigations will continue today to identify a large tank-like object that has washed up on the beach at Spanish Point.
The 15ft long cylinder, believed to weigh several tonnes, was first noticed yesterday, and Gardaí and the Council were informed while later, the Irish Coast Guard was alerted and assumed responsibility for the incident.
A section of the beach was cordoned off last night until the tide covered the object, and buoys were tied to it so that it could be easily spotted in the sea.
Efforts to identify the object continue.
