Almost 1000 Clare motorists availed of the car scrappage scheme prior to it’s removal last week.
Figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry shows 973 cars were purchased using the scheme since it was introduced at the beginning of 2010.
Nationally, the motor industry welcomed the scheme, claiming it directly created 3,000 jobs across Ireland.
Representatives have also expressed confidence that new car sales in 2011 will be similar if not better than last year, even though the scheme has been taken away.
