The Clare-based Deputy Leader of the Green Party insists there has been a monumental shift in attitudes towards green initiatives.

Roisín Garvey, who became a Senator in 2020 as a nominee by the Taoiseach, replaces Minister for Media Catherine Martin, who served as Deputy Leader of the party for 13 years.

The Inagh-based representative saw off Dublin Central TD Neasa Hourigan to take up the role, securing almost 51% of the votes cast yesterday.

As a rural representative, Senator Garvey says she wants to change the perception that her party is Dublin-centric and secure more funding in the budget for green initiatives.
