New dwelling completions in Clare have dropped by over 50% in the year to June.

Figures released by the Central Statistics Office show a marked drop in house completions across Clare in 2023.

The 84 homes built is a 52 percent decrease from the same period last year, which is the lowest number of completions in the county since during the Covid period, in the first quarter of 2021

179 houses were finished across the county in 2023 so far with 62 houses finished in the Ennis electoral area last six months and North Clare seeing 43 homes completed.

East Clare saw a further 34 dwellings finished, with 27 new homes built in West Clare, and a further 23 in the Shannon region.

It means the CSO has recorded 1,166 homes built in Clare in the last 18 months.

Of the dwellings built this year in the county, 109 were single residential units, 74 were scheme units and 6 were apartments.

While Clare figures have fallen, nationwide dwellings completions have increased by almost 6 percent to 14,069 compared to the same period last year.
