A row between the judiciary and the Justice Minister appears to have eased, with the announcement that a new forum has been set up to allow judges to raise issues of concern with the government.

The Chief Justice Susan Denham said yesterday that the forum will allow for ongoing contact between the judiciary and the attorney general.

It follows comments by Judge Peter Kelly who accused the government of dismantling judicial independence brick-by-brick.

The Association of Judges of Ireland said yesterday it was satisfied after meeting with the Attorney General Máire Whelan, that its concerns about judicial independence were fully understood.
