The newly appointed President of Shannon Chamber has expressed confidence that a ten million euro investment by Ryanair will provide a spin off for other companies in the area.

The airline has this week confirmed it will open a new maintenance facility in the Shannon Free Zone.

Ryanair has said that it’s new facility at Hangar 5 will support the maintenance of the airline’s fleet, as it grows to 600 aircraft by 2026.

The investment will generate 200 specialised jobs in the region, including licensed engineers, mechanics, and support staff.

The supply of skilled labour was one of the driving forces behind the airline’s decision to locate its first such facility in the country in Shannon and the company says it will be setting up its own training programme for apprentices.

Newly appointed President of Shannon Chamber, Eoin Gavin says the opening of this facility will be also good news for other businesses in the area.

The Mayor of Clare believes other airlines may now follow in the footsteps of Ryanair by investing in Shannon.

Independent Councillor PJ Ryan says news of Lufthansa Tecknik closing their facility came as a big blow to the area, but he’s confident that Shannon Airport is on an upward trajectory from this point forward.
