No Clare Sinn Fein General Election Candidate

 

There’ll be no Sinn Fein candidate for the General Election in Clare, despite the wishes of local party members.

Local members of the party have attempted to put Spancillhill Garage owner Joe Corbett forward as a candidate, but Sinn Fein Headquarters have opted not to field any candidate in County Clare this time round.

Ennis woman Anna Prior contested the 2007 general election for Sinn Fein in Clare and polled better than the Labour candidate at the time with 1929 first preference votes, but a Sinn Fein spokesperson has told Clare FM they’re now focusing on building the party in Clare for future elections.

The party’s only elected representative in Clare, Shannon Councillor Cathy McCafferty says its regrettable that there’ll be no Sinn Fein name on the ballot paper this time round.
