No uturn on proposed route of Northern Distributor Road

Clare County Council has decided not to alter it’s planned route for Phase 2 of the Limerick Northern Distributor Road, despite heavy criticism from residents in South East Clare.

The local authority has announced that it’s Preferred Route Corridor for the road is the same as that which was put on public display in January of this year.   The route will extend from Knockalisheen to the Old Limerick/Dublin Road, passing near Parteen, Ardnacrusha and the University of Limerick.

The Council’s decision to maintain the status quo comes even though it received over 400 submissions from the public, who are concerned that it will lead to increased flooding problems in South-East Clare, and will split the community of Parteen in two.
