Nugent Family Solicitor Says Establishing Evidence Of Prior Assault Will Be Key Aim Of New Investigation

The solicitor of the family of the late Patrick Nugent says establishing whether or not the Sixmilebridge native was assaulted before he died will be one of the chief aims of the new investigation.

The exhumation of Mr Nugent’s remains which commenced on Tuesday morning in Feenagh Graveyard is continuing today as part of the fresh investigation into the circumstances of his death on February 11th 1984.

When brought to Barrington’s Hospital in Limerick following an incident at Bunratty Folk Park on the date in question, he was pronounced dead on arrival, having sustained crush injuries.

Two crashed vehicles were found at the scene of the incident and several witnesses claim to have heard Mr Nugent says the words “he clocked me” after sustaining the injuries.

Nugent family solicitor Kevin Winters of KRW Law in Belfast says as it’s “well established” that the aforementioned words were spoken, he believes it’s clear that an assault took place.
