As of the end of June of this year, there are 26,662 people waiting for an appointment for a treatment at Ennis Hospital and UHL across a host of specialties.

This is almost 11% below figures for the same time last year and while the number of people waiting for an appointment in Ennis is up slightly from 1,030 to 1,196, UHL has seen a reduction of nearly 12%.

Notably, the amount of adults waiting 18 months or more for an appointment at the region’s main hospital has halved since last June – with 1,499 now on the list compared to 3,017 last year.

Progress has been made in the area of opthalmology at the Dooradoyle facility where the number waiting for an appointment for a year and a half or more is down almost 60% to 1,251.

Dermatology appears to be a growing problem at the facility meanwhile as the waiting list for that specialty has grown by 35% in the last twelve months.

Of the 1,196 adults waiting on an appointment in Ennis, 1,050 of them are for cardiology while 47 children are awaiting treatments relating to paediatrics.

Across Ennis and UHL, there are 22,504 adults and 4,158 children currently waiting for an appointment.
