The number of people officially declared homeless in Clare has fallen by nearly a quarter in the last 12 months.

That’s in spite of the number of new presentations to Clare County Council’s Homeless Action Team continuing to increase.

56 people were classified as homeless in this county at the end of February according to new Department of Housing figures.

That’s down from 72 during the same month in 2021.

However, the number of people homeless in the Midwest region, which includes Limerick, has risen by 11 percent in the same timeframe.

The number of families seeking emergency accommodation in the Midwest has also ballooned from 29 to 50 in the past 12 months.

93 children are among those considered officially homeless in this region.

Clare County Council’s Homeless Action Team had 64 presentations in total to its services between the 21st of January and the 17th of February, with around a fifth of them new presentations.

It follows a particularly high number of 150 overall presentations that sought help from the local authority here between Christmas and mid-January.
