Nursing staff hold talks with HSE Mid West

Nursing staff in the Mid West are set to hold face to face talks with HSE management today over the bed closures and services cuts at Limerick Regional Hospital

They are angry at a lack of consultation over the decision by the Health Service to implement the changes as part of efforts to reduce the 14 million euro plus deficit at Dooradoyle.

Political figures across the Mid West are being warned that this is not just a Limerick problem but will affect patient services right across the region.

At the weekend it emerged that the spend on health services at Dooradoyle for 2011 was 90 million less than UHG – even though 40 thousand more patients are treated at the regional compared to Galway.

Clare County Councillor and Member of the Regional Health Forum West Brian Meaney says its scandalous and Oireachtas representatives must take action now
