The Midwest Hospital Campaign is calling for urgent attention on issues at University Hospital Limerick which have pushed nursing staff to the brink of industrial action.

The INMO is balloting its members in response to what they say is a refusal by hospital management to attend talks at the Workplace Relations Commission.

The Hospitals Group insists it is committed to engaging with staff on issues including staff vacancies, but the Hospital Campaign group says it also needs to be an issue for government and local elected representatives.

Spokesperson Noeleen Moran, herself a former Sinn Féin election candidate, says the issue needs attention now, before the usual winter pressures arrive.
