One quizzed after violent altercation in Ennis

Ennis Gardaí are investigating after a violent row between a number of groups of people erupted in the town centre today.

Its understood a number of weapons were produced during the incident including baseball bats, a golf club and a machete and one man’s been arrested.

This incident involving up to 40 people erupted on a busy Bank Place shortly before half eleven this morning.

According to eyewitnesses one group of people were standing outside the post office when a white people carrier with several people inside pulled up on the street and a verbal exchange ensued. Several weapons including a machete and a golf were produced during the row and at least one person sustained injuries.

Its also understood that one individual ran into one of the nearby banks in an effort to flee his attackers.

Gardaí were at the scene within minutes and one person has been arrested and is being held for questioning at Ennis Garda Station.

This incident comes just days before a representative from traveller organisation Pavee Point is due to address Ennis Town Council over recent feuding in Clare’s County Town.
