Clare’s Green Senator insists more investment is needed in new wastewater systems in the interest of public health.

Roisin Garvey has raised the matter in the Seanad, amid concerns about potential E-Coli infections amongst bathers in Clare’s coastal spots.

Water quality is tested at regular intervals along the coast, but areas like Kilkee have seen the beach closed on occasion, after malfunctions in Irish Waters wastewater system led to sewage being pumped into the sea.

Inagh Senator Garvey says the ongoing issues simply aren’t good enough, as she believes it’s posing serious health concerns for people taking to the water.
