Outgoing Mayor Of Clare Pledges To Continue Funding Push For Roads “In Very Bad Condition”

The Killaloe Municipal District’s new Cathaoirleach has pledged to push for more funding to remedy roads “in very bad condition” in his region.

Outgoing Mayor of Clare Joe Cooney will be chairing meetings of East Clare’s local representatives for the coming year while Maghera Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat Hayes will take up the mantle as Leas Cathaoirleach.

Bodyke Councillor Cooney was the first candidate over the line in his Local Electoral Area in the recent local elections, having claimed 27% of first preference votes.

A recent meeting of Clare County Council heard that €13.5 million is needed to bring the county’s roads network up to standard, and the Fine Gael representative says East Clare in particular is sorely in need of assistance.
