Ploughing Championships get underway

8 Clare Farmers will be hoping for success this week as they prepare to take part in the National Ploughing Championships.

The 3 day event in Wexford  will be officially opened by President Michael D. Higgins today  with 180-thousand people expected to attend

This year Clare will be well represented across a variety of the competitions- Melick’s John White will take part in the Vintage Category while Jim Cronin from Bridgestown will compete in the Horses section.

Sixmilebridge’s Barry Donnellan is in the U21’s category,  while Sinead Corbett from Newmarket on Fergus takes part in the U28 Mixed and Fellow Newmarket on Fergus farmer,  Pat Quinn is involved in the 3 furrow event

There’s also three Clare competitors in the Junior events; Kilkishen’s Ger Frost, Kildysart’s Ger Hannon and Paul Browne from Cratloe.
