There has been a spike in the level of overcrowding at the region’s main hospital after the weekend.

The latest figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show there were 80 admitted patients waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick this morning, 31 of those on trolleys or chairs in the Emergency Department.

The overall figure is 23 more than the next busiest facility; Cork University Hospital, where there were 57 on trolleys, while at Galway University Hospital 49 admitted patients were waiting for a bed.
