Prominent Clare Retailer Says Ennis Public Realm Project “Smacks Of Children’s Hospital”

A prominent Clare retailer claims the pace of progress on the Ennis Public Realm project “smacks of the Children’s Hospital”.

Businesses have expressed renewed frustration after a further temporary road closure was put in place between Barrack Junction and Carmody Street, which will close O’Connell street to vehicular traffic until December.

The €11.5m scheme is expected to be complete by October 2025 and has a long term goal of increasing footfall and spending in the town through streetscape and public infrastructure enhancements.

 

But Patrick Bourke of Patrick Bourke’s Menswear on High Street insists the works are taking far too long and have killed local trade.
