The Green Party Deputy Leader believes the introduction of a grant to local food producers will provide an economic boost for communities in Clare.

It follows the announcement by Green Minister Pippa Hackett that a maximum of €150,000 would be available to local suppliers to ensure more local food will be available in nearby shops.

The grant aims to reduce the time from farm to fork while also allowing communities to directly communicate with their local suppliers through farmers markets and community gardens.

Deputy Leader of the Green Party, Clare’s Roisín Garvey, says the grant will safeguard supply of produce to local communities, with larger companies having a tendency to close stores with little notice.
