A Quin woman is appealing for surfers to be mindful of swimmers after she was struck by a board in Lahinch.

Marie Slattery is a regular sea swimmer and visited Lahinch on Saturday when conditions were rough.

A surfer was in the water in close proximity to her swimming group when a strong current saw the full force of his board crash into her chest.

Marie explains that during the summer months, lifeguards designate separate areas for both swimmers and surfers but she says during the off-season it can be a free-for-all.
