A champion rally driver killed in a crash at an event in North Clare this past weekend will be laid to rest today.

Simon McKinley lost his life when the car he was driving crashed on Saturday evening as he was taking part in the annual Clare Motor Club Hillclimb at Scalp Hill between Carron and Balharbour.

The 34 year old is survived by his wife Deirdre, and their 11 month old son Rory, and he'll be laid to rest following a ceremony in Naul, Co. Dublin today.

Simon McKinley's obituary notice says he died "while pursuing his passion."
