Schools that’ve closed due to the weather are expected to make up for the days again during the remaining school year.
The Department of Education has said that boards of management should make all reasonable efforts in this regard.
Bus Eireann will make decisions about school buses locally based on its knowledge of the prevailing road conditions.
For the schools that’ve re-opened meanwhile, efforts will be underway to clear playgrounds and ensure the safety of students in icy conditions.
Tom Tiernan of Clare County Council says their responsibility is only for the roads – the rest is up to the schools themselves.
