Clare County Council is to carry out emergency repairs on a 19th century bridge in North Clare.

A local road between Maurices Mills and Maghera will close for three weeks to allow for the works

The bridge in question dates back to the 19th century, and has recently been inspected by Clare County Council.

Engineers discovered that a section of its central pier had collapsed and consequently had undermined the structural integrity of the bridge.

Emergency works will now be carried out, resulting in the closure of the L-10961 local road between Maurices Mills and Maghera.

It will shut for three weeks from Monday from the junction with the R-460 to the Four Cross roads at Maghera.

Diversions will be in place via the R-460 to Inagh and the L-5212 at Carrowkeel East.
